The Streets of Minneapolis Are in the National Spotlight
In this episode of What the Hell Do I Know with JB, I sat down with Minnesota pastor and community leader Doug Pagitt to talk about what’s happening in the streets of Minneapolis.
Federal agents.
Immigration raids.
Questions about freedom.

And one big question for Christians:
“What does love require of us?”
This conversation isn’t about left vs. right.
It’s about faith, citizenship, and how we treat our neighbors in tense moments.
Why This Conversation Matters
Over the past several weeks, Minneapolis has been at the center of national debate around:
ICE operations
Federal authority
Immigration enforcement
Use of force
American identity
Doug shared firsthand perspective from someone living in the city during these events.
Whether you agree or disagree, it’s worth listening.
Because these aren’t abstract headlines.
These are real neighborhoods. Real families. Real tension.
Faith in the Middle of Political Fire
One of the central themes of our discussion was this:
“This doesn’t feel political. This feels hard.”
As Christians, we often default to political categories.
But Jesus didn’t say:
“Love your party.”
He said:
Love God.
Love your neighbor.
So what happens when policy, power, and people collide?
We wrestle with it. Honestly.
What We Covered in This Episode
The “retribution” controversy
ICE enforcement and local response
Immigration system complexity
What American freedom really means
Christian responsibility in divided times
The difference between compliance and compassion
This wasn’t a shouting match.
It was a conversation.
And those feel rare these days.
American Freedom — What Does It Mean?
At one point we even talked about something as simple as a Coke bottle in Ireland.
Why?
Because sometimes it’s the small freedoms that remind us how deeply the concept of liberty is embedded in American DNA.
Freedom matters.
But so does dignity.
Holding those together isn’t easy.

Final Thought
We can disagree without dehumanizing.
We can wrestle without hating.
And if we claim to follow Jesus, the world should see something different in how we respond. That’s the heart behind this conversation.
